The silver jubilee edition of IILF 2010 was inaugurated by Thiru Dayanidhi Maran, Hon. Union Minister of Textiles, Government of India on 31st January 2010 in Chennai Trade center In his inaugural address, he underlined that the leather industry occupies a place of prominence in the Indian economy, in view of its substantial contribution to exports, employment generation and also foreign exchange earnings. He was heartened to note that the Indian leather industry was aiming to augment its production and enhance its export to the US$7.03 billion by 2013-14, in the process of which additional employment opportunities for over 1 million people will be created .

He later honoured the top exporters in recognition of their excellent export performance during the year 2008-09, and concluded with extending his warm greetings and felicitations to the award winners.

Dr. Subas Pani, CMD of ITPO said that ITPO was proud of its milestone achievement of celebrating the silver jubilee of IILF this year. He said that the 25th edition of this annual fair has been planned to provide an ideal forum for global manufactures as well as national players engaged in the Leather and Allied Industries to display their products and services and have good business interaction.

He remarked that the fair has grown bigger to 8400 sq.m and has seen increased participation. He complimented the award winners and promised that ITPO would re dedicate itself to promote IILF in the interests of the Indian Leather sector more vigorously.
